A gunman opened fire in Kyiv, killing six people and injuring more than a dozen others at a supermarket yesterday, before being killed during an arrest attempt.

Expressing condolences to the victims’ families, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the shooting occurred in the Holosiivskyi district and confirmed that the “attacker has been neutralised.”

According to Ukrainian police, the assailant opened fire on passersby in a Kyiv district before barricading himself inside a supermarket with hostages and refusing to negotiate, leading to the deaths of six people.

Meanwhile, Ukraine’s Security Service said the incident is being investigated as a terrorist act.
