Supporters of Hungary’s opposition Tisza Party rallied late into the night, expressing optimism in the final hours of campaigning ahead of a crucial national vote.

Crowds gathered in Miskolc, lighting torches and chanting slogans as party leader Peter Magyar addressed the gathering.

Recent opinion polls suggest the Tisza Party is narrowly ahead of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and his ruling Fidesz Party, but with a large share of undecided voters, the race remains open.

Orbán, meanwhile, made a final campaign push at a rally, framing the election as a clear choice between his leadership and what he described as a government serving foreign interests.

With voters set to head to the polls on Sunday, Hungary’s election is shaping up to be a closely contested race, with everything still to play for.
