Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Chief Minister of the Odisha, Mohan Charan Majhi, for increasing the reservation for Scheduled Tribes from 12% to 22.50% and for Scheduled Castes from 8% to 16.25% in the state for enrollment in medical, engineering, agriculture and allied technological education courses in Odisha, and for approving the provision of 11.25% reservation for Socially and Educationally Backward Classes (SEBC) students for the first time in the cabinet.
Pradhan said, “While providing social justice is the cornerstone of the Modi government’s governance, providing equal opportunities, rights and a dignified life to every section of the society is the priority of our government. Inspired by the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s motto of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’, this decision of the Odisha government is a historic step. He said that this reflects the ‘Antyoday Sankalp’ of the Double Engine Government, i.e. the commitment to the development of the last rung of the society.”
Appreciating the decission, the Minister said, “This historic decision will empower the talented talents of the last rung of the society and will be a major means of fulfilling the dreams of students from ordinary poor families of the state to study medicine and engineering. I also thank the Deputy Chief Minister and Agriculture Minister of the state, Kanak Vardhan Singhdeo, Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Development Minister Nityanand Gand, Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling, Higher Education Minister Suryavanshi Suraj and Industry, Skill Development and Technical Education Minister Sampada Swain for this welfare initiative.”
