External Affairs Minister of India, Dr. S. Jaishankar held a phone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Sunday. The discussion focused on the ongoing West Asia conflict, following U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent ultimatum to Iran demanding the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

According to the Iranian embassy in New Delhi, the two ministers also discussed bilateral relations and broader regional and international developments.

In addition, Jaishankar spoke with the Foreign Minister of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and the Qatari Prime Minister, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman. The talks were understood to emphasise the conflict’s impact on global energy supplies.

Over the past weeks, India has intensified diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the West Asia conflict swiftly and ensuring the uninterrupted flow of energy through the Strait of Hormuz.
