EC confirms 1955 candidates are in fray for elections in Assam, Kerala, Puducherry & bye-elections

The Election Commission today said that 1955 candidates are in the fray for elections in Assam, Kerala, Puducherry and bye-elections of four states, which will go to the polls on the 9th of April.

In a statement, the poll body said that 722 candidates from Assam, 890 candidates from Kerala and 294 from Puducherry will contest elections. Additionally, 49 candidates will contest bye-elections in four states, including three candidates from Goa, 34 candidates from Karnataka, six from Nagaland and six from Tripura.

It added that two hundred fifty candidates withdrew their nominations. The last date to withdraw nominations was till 3 pm yesterday.
