Balendra Shah, a senior leader of the Rastriya Swatantra Party, is set to be sworn in as Nepal’s youngest Prime Minister.

The 35 year old, popularly known as ‘Balen’, was projected as the party’s prime ministerial candidate during the campaign ahead of the 5 March general election. He will also become the first person from the Madhes region to hold the country’s top executive post.

Engineer turned Rapper turned Politician Balen was sworn in as a member of the House of Representatives by Arjun Narsingh KC, the eldest among the newly elected members. He is scheduled to take oath as Prime Minister on Friday, administered by President Ramchandra Paudel.

The Parliamentary Party meeting elected Balen as its leader, formally qualifying him for the top executive position.

In the House of Representatives elections, 165 members were elected through the first-past-the-post system, while 110 were elected through the proportional representation system. The Rastriya Swatantra Party emerged as the largest party, securing a sweeping mandate with 182 seats.
