The Central Working Committee of Nepali Congress has rejected the resignation of its President, Gagan Kumar Thapa, who had offered to quit, taking moral responsibility for the party’s election defeat.

Thapa submitted his resignation to Vice-President Bishwaprakash Sharma on Wednesday, accepting full responsibility for the loss.

A proposal to reject his resignation was approved during meetings on Friday and Sunday at the party’s central office in Sanepa.

Party spokesperson Devraj Chalise said Thapa’s leadership is seen as even more crucial given the current national situation.
