A Russian delegation led by President Vladimir Putin’s special envoy Kirill Dmitriev met with U.S. counterparts in Florida on Wednesday amid the escalating global energy crisis triggered by the Israel-U.S. war against Iran.
The talks, part of the U.S.-Russia economic working group, focused on energy market turmoil, promising bilateral projects, and restoring relations, according to Dmitriev. Nearly 20 million barrels per day of oil, about a fifth of global output, remain trapped in the Gulf due to the effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz since February 28.
U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff described the discussions as covering a “variety of topics,” with both teams agreeing to stay in touch. Attendees included Jared Kushner and White House adviser Josh Gruenbaum.
Dmitriev emphasized Russia’s oil and gas role in global stability and criticized the destructiveness of sanctions.
