At least six people have died after a bus caught fire in the Swiss town of Krezers, authorities said.

The incident occurred a short distance from the capital on Tuesday. Officials are investigating the cause of the blaze. Initial reports suggested the fire may have been started deliberately by a passenger.

Cantonal public prosecutor Raphael Bourquin said Wednesday that a witness reported a man of Swiss origin boarding the bus with bags, dousing himself with a flammable substance, and setting himself alight.

Bourquin added that there is no evidence suggesting a terrorist act. It appears that the man suspected of starting the fire is among the deceased. Identification of all victims could take several days.
