Greenland’s Foreign Minister Vivian Motzfeldt said on Saturday that talks with the United States are positive, though the outcome remains uncertain. She made the remarks at a joint news conference with her Danish and Canadian counterparts, also welcoming the opening of Canada’s new consulate in Greenland’s capital, Nuuk.

Denmark’s Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen added that new meetings with the United States were scheduled. Canada and France, both opposed to U.S. President Donald Trump’s claim to Greenland, opened consulates in the Danish autonomous territory’s capital on Friday.

Greenland, a semi-autonomous Danish territory, has become a focal point following Trump’s assertion that U.S. control of the island is a national security priority.
