Gunmen attacked a village in western Niger, near the borders with Burkina Faso and Mali, over the weekend, killing at least 31 people.
The incident occurred on Sunday in a village in the Tillaberi region, a tri-border area where the frontiers of Niger, Burkina Faso, and Mali meet. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.
Tillaberi emerged as the deadliest region in the central Sahel in 2025, recording over 1,200 deaths, most of them civilians.
Several terrorist groups operate in Niger, targeting both civilians and the military, including an affiliate of the Islamic State.
