U.S. President Donald Trump said that what China decides to do about Taiwan is ultimately up to Chinese President Xi Jinping, but added that he would be “very unhappy” with any change to the current status quo.
His remarks came during a discussion about what lessons Xi might take from Trump’s military operation in Venezuela.
Trump emphasized that the situations are not comparable, noting that Taiwan does not present the same kind of threat to China as he has said Nicolás Maduro’s government posed to the United States.
