The District Administration Office in Nepal’s Parsa district has extended the curfew in Birgunj Metropolitan City to prevent further escalation of communal tensions.
The move comes after unrest triggered by a dispute between two communities over comments posted on TikTok, which later spiralled into violence.
Tensions flared on Sunday after a mosque in Kamala Municipality, Ward Number Six, was vandalised.
In protest, demonstrators took to the streets in and around Birgunj, burning tyres and raising slogans.
The curfew, initially imposed from Monday evening till Tuesday morning, was extended after authorities said a prohibitory order failed to stop rival groups from holding rallies at multiple locations.
