North Korea’s supreme leader Kim Jong Un attended New Year celebrations in Pyongyang, which were marked by fireworks, a countdown, and patriotic performances.

In his New Year address, Kim praised the North Korean people for strengthening the country’s dignity and power in 2025 and urged unity ahead of a key ruling party congress expected in early 2026.

Kim, accompanied by his daughter, later met families of North Korean officers fighting alongside Russia in the Ukraine war and attended a banquet for workers selected for their loyalty to the regime.
