Russia threatens to ban WhatsApp; State-backed MAX in the offing

Russia threatened on Friday WhatsApp to ban from the country if it fails to comply with the state’s law, Reuters reported. Russia started limiting some calls on WhatsApp which is owned by Meta and on Telegram.

The accusation was refusal of sharing information with law enforcement in some fraud and crime cases.

The Roscomnadzor watchdog accused on Friday that WhatsApp failed to comply with Russian requirements to prevent and combat crime.

On the other hand WhatsApp has accused Moscow of trying to block millions of Russian users from communication access.

A state-backed rival app called MAX which is in the offing.
