Cyclone Ditwah Hits Sri Lanka; 58 Dead, 425 homes damaged

Cyclonic Storm Ditwa has formed off Sri Lanka’s east coast bringing heavy rains that may exceed 200 mm in several districts.

Sri Lankan authorities say at least 40 people have been killed and 10 injured as floods and landslides continue to batter the island, with 21 others still missing.

More than 1,800 families have been moved to temporary shelters, and over 425 homes have been damaged.

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has directed MPs to return to their districts to coordinate relief, as Parliament suspends its budget debate.
