The United Nations Security Council(UNSC) is scheduled to vote on a resolution endorsing US President Donald Trump’s Gaza peace plan.
The United States last week began formal negotiations within the 15-member Council on a draft text designed to follow up on a ceasefire in the two-year conflict between Israel and Hamas and to secure backing for Trump’s proposed framework.
According to the draft, the resolution welcomes the creation of a Board of Peace, a transitional governing body for Gaza that Trump would theoretically chair, with a mandate running until the end of 2027.
The draft would also authorize member states to form a temporary International Stabilization Force to work with Israel, Egypt and newly trained Palestinian police to secure border areas and support the demilitarization of the Gaza Strip.
The United States, along with several Arab and Muslim-majority nations — including Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Turkey — has urged the Council to move quickly to adopt the resolution.
