Devastating floods Eastern Mexico left thousands homeless without food, or basic necessities following torrential rains that have killed at least 72 people across the region.

In Alamo, one of the states hit by the floods, residents carried bags of debris as official trucks worked to drain flood waters from the streets. Works to restore electrical service continued as survivors waded through flooded areas.

The disaster began last week when heavy rains triggered flooding and landslides across five states in central Mexico. Mexican President said Friday that 48 people remain missing. Rivers overflowed, washing away entire streets and leaving communities isolated.
