Amid growing confusion and concern over the newly announced H-1B visa proclamation, the White House issued an official clarification on Saturday.

In a social media post on X, the White House Press Secretary clarified that the $100,000 fee will be a one-time payment applicable only to new applicants. She further explained that individuals who already hold H-1B visas and are currently outside the United States will not be required to pay the $100,000 fee to re-enter the country.

H-1B visa holders will continue to leave and re-enter the U.S. as they normally could; their ability to travel is not affected by the new proclamation.

The Press Secretary also confirmed that the new rule applies only to new visa applications, not to renewals or current visa holders. She added that the rule will take effect from the next upcoming H-1B lottery cycle.

The executive order, which is expected to face legal challenges, will come into effect on Sunday at 12:01 a.m. US Eastern Time (0401 GMT).
