NATO has heightened security measures following the violation of Romanian airspace by a Russian drone.
Two F-16 fighter jets were scrambled from an air base to intercept the drone as it flew at a very low altitude, but it disappeared near Chilia Veche.
This latest incursion comes amid Russia’s renewed attacks on Ukrainian ports and follows recent drone infiltrations into Polish airspace, which led the Polish government to invoke Article 4 of NATO.
These Russian incursions into Eastern European countries have increased concerns over the potential spillover of the conflict in the region.
