Speaking to reporters at the White House on Friday, U.S. President Donald Trump said Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva is welcome to call him anytime to discuss tariffs and other tensions between the two countries.

Brazil’s Finance Minister Fernando Haddad later welcomed Trump’s remarks, calling them “great” and saying he is confident Lula shares the same view and would be open to dialogue with the U.S. president.

Lula also posted on X that Brazil remains open to dialogue, though he made no direct mention of Trump or his comments.

Earlier, Trump imposed a 50% tariff on Brazilian goods—effective next week—with multiple exemptions, saying the move aims to counter what he described as a “witch hunt” against former President Jair Bolsonaro.
