ASEAN’s special envoy to Myanmar said on Sunday that foreign ministers from the Southeast Asian bloc were informed about the health and well-being of detained former leader Aung San Suu Kyi.
Philippine Foreign Minister Maria Theresa Lazaro has been seeking access to Suu Kyi, who has been detained since her elected government was removed in a 2021 military coup.
Suu Kyi is serving a 27-year prison sentence, recently reduced by one-third, over a series of charges including incitement, corruption, election fraud and violations of the state secrets law. Her allies have said the charges were fabricated to keep her out of politics.
