The Egyptian Football Federation has lodged a complaint with FIFA, seeking an investigation into the officiating team that handled Egypt’s 3-2 Round of 16 defeat to Argentina and demanding their removal from the FIFA World Cup.
Federation President Hany Aburida accused French referee Francois Letexier and his officiating team of serious refereeing mistakes and double standards, alleging the decisions contributed to Egypt’s elimination from the tournament.
One of the key incidents came when referee Letexier disallowed a goal by Mostafa Ziko, with VAR intervening to identify a foul on Lisandro Martinez earlier in the build-up while Egypt were leading 1-0.
Egypt also protested a late incident in added time, claiming Hamdy Fathy was denied a penalty after an alleged pull by Alexis Mac Allister inside the penalty area.
Aburida has called on FIFA to investigate the match officials and exclude the referee and the entire officiating crew from the remainder of the World Cup.
