The lavender harvesting season began Saturday at the CSIR-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (IIIM) center in Pulwama, marking another phase in efforts to promote lavender cultivation and aromatic crops in Kashmir.

The harvesting program was led by CSIR-IIIM Director Dr. Zubair Ahad, who visited the Pulwama center to review ongoing cultivation and harvesting activities.

He was accompanied by Dr. Shahid Rasool, in charge of the CSIR-IIIM Pulwama center, along with scientists, technical staff and progressive farmers.

During the visit, Ahad interacted with farmers and highlighted the potential of lavender as a high-value crop that can provide an additional source of income. He said CSIR-IIIM remains committed to supporting growers through scientific guidance, improved technologies and value-addition initiatives aimed at strengthening the aroma mission in Jammu and Kashmir.

Rasool briefed the director on the progress of lavender cultivation in Pulwama and outlined the institute’s support for farmers through technical training, quality planting material and scientific interventions.

The officials also appreciated local farmers for adopting lavender cultivation and expressed confidence that the crop would continue to create sustainable livelihood opportunities and encourage rural entrepreneurship in the region.
