Residents of the U.S. Pacific territories of Guam and Northern Mariana Islands are preparing for the arrival of Typhoon Bavi, which is forecast to rapidly strengthen into a super typhoon before making landfall early next week.
Authorities have urged residents to board up homes, stock up on essential supplies, and prepare for tropical storm conditions as the system intensifies over the Pacific.
Typhoon Bavi is expected to reach sustained winds of around 240 km/h by Saturday, strengthening further to approximately 278 km/h by Sunday—equivalent to a Category 5 hurricane.
The storm is forecast to strike the U.S. Pacific territories on Monday, just months after the region was battered by Super Typhoon Sinlaku.
