The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Mahesh Dixit as the new Director of the Intelligence Bureau (IB).
Dixit, a 1993-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the Andhra Pradesh cadre, currently serves as the Special Director of the Intelligence Bureau.
He will succeed Tapan Kumar Deka, a 1988-batch IPS officer of the Himachal Pradesh cadre.
Dixit’s appointment will be effective from the date he assumes charge and will remain valid for a period of two years or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
According to the official order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) under the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, the appointment includes an extension in service under the provisions of Fundamental Rule 56(d) and Rule 16(1A) of the All India Services (Death-cum-Retirement Benefits) Rules, 1958.
The Intelligence Bureau is India’s premier internal intelligence agency, and the appointment comes as the government continues to strengthen the country’s internal security and intelligence framework.
