U.S. President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 17 June, 2026 aiming at ending of war.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry said that the agreement was already in effect as of June 17. The signing took place during a dinner hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron following the G7 summit.
Both sides said the deal is in effect, and the U.S. said that the deal includes Iran not developing or buying a nuclear weapon, ending the war on all fronts and reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
However, President Trump threatened to resume attacks and kill Iranian officials if they failed to honour their commitments.
Iran has also confirmed the agreement. Spokesperson of Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Esmaeil Baghaei said that the document had now been completed and signed by both the countries.
He added that an official ceremony did not ‘have much of a place’ in Iran’s plans.
U.S. President Donald Trump said, “And this meeting could not have come at a better time. On Sunday we reached an agreement with Iran that achieves everything we set out to accomplish – everything and much more; ending the current conflict and reopening the Strait of Hormuz, and preventing Iran from ever obtaining a nuclear weapon. That’s what it was all about. It was 99% Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon. They can’t develop it, buy it, they can never have a nuclear weapon.”
“And it’s a memorandum of understanding, if it doesn’t get done in 60 days, that’s alright, we go back to bombing. I don’t want to do that because it’s so good but we might have to because we’re never gonna let them have a nuclear weapon,” he added.
