West African tiny country, Cape Verde created one of the biggest shocks of the FIFA World Cup, holding title favourites Spain to a 0–0 draw in their tournament debut. The final whistle triggered jubilant celebrations among Cape Verde supporters, who hailed the result as a historic achievement.

In Boston, home to the largest Cape Verdean community in the United States, fans gathered at a city-centre fan zone to watch the match and erupted in joy after the draw.
