The Government has appointed Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth as the next Chief of the Army Staff with effect from June 30, 2026.

He is currently serving as Vice Chief of the Army Staff. Lt Gen Seth will succeed General Upendra Dwivedi, who is set to retire on the same day.

An officer with nearly four decades of service, Lt Gen Seth brings extensive experience in operational, strategic and capability development roles within the Indian Army.

He has led both the South Western and Southern Commands, a rare distinction among senior military leaders.
