The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) launched a massive plantation drive across the country on World Environment Day today. Marking the occasion, DG ITBP Shatrujeet Singh Kapur participated in a plantation programme at 22 Bn, Tigri, New Delhi, along with ADG Sanjay Gunjyal, senior officers and over 150 Himveers.

Speaking on the occasion, the DG said that environmental conservation is not merely a responsibility but an integral part of ITBP’s work culture. Serving in the ecologically sensitive Himalayan and border regions, ITBP personnel closely witness the impacts of climate change, glacier retreat and environmental degradation.

He emphasized that protecting nature is essential for ensuring a sustainable future for generations to come.

The DG informed that, under the leadership of the Hon’ble Union Home and Cooperation Minister Shri Amit Shah, a nationwide plantation campaign is being undertaken today, and ITBP has been assigned a target of planting 75,000 saplings.

He expressed confidence that all Frontiers, Sector Headquarters, Training Institutions and Units of the Force would successfully achieve this target.

DG Kapur stressed that plantation efforts would be truly meaningful only when accompanied by sustained care and nurturing.

He remarked that transforming a sapling into a tree is the real measure of success in environmental conservation.

Besides the main event at Tigri, plantation drives and environmental awareness activities were organised across ITBP formations, training centres and border outposts nationwide. Through these initiatives, the Force reaffirmed its commitment towards environmental protection, biodiversity conservation and sustainable development.
