Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said the National Anti-Doping Act will be amended to criminalise the trafficking and distribution of prohibited substances, with a jail term of up to five years.

The proposed amendments have been uploaded on the website of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports for public feedback, with June 18 set as the deadline for submissions.

Mandaviya said the amended bill will be introduced during the upcoming monsoon session of the Parliament of India after considering the feedback received from the public.

The Sports Minister, who has consistently advocated aggressive awareness campaigns to address the issue, said criminalising the organised supply of banned drugs is necessary.
