Iran’s Head coach Amir Ghalenoei has picked the preliminary squad as the national team gears up for the FIFA World Cup 2026. Experienced forward Sardar Azmoun was a notable omission from the 30-man squad, which will depart for a pre-tournament training camp.

The squad will travel to Turkiye next week to face Gambia in a warm-up match before heading to their tournament base camp in Arizona.

While Azmoun did not make the cut, veteran striker Mehdi Taremi and former Brighton winger Alireza Jahanbakhsh were both included in the squad.

Iran are scheduled to play all three of their group matches in the United States, though tensions in West Asia have left their participation up in the air. Iran will open their World Cup campaign against New Zealand on June 15.
