Svendu Adhikari today swern-in as the Chief Minister of WestBengal. He is the first CM from BJP and 9th CM OF the state. Born in Karkuli, Purba Medinipur in 1970, Adhikari holds a Maters Degree from Rabindra Bharati University.
He remained as the Senior Leader in Public life for 30 years, he also remained unmarried in cause of Public Service
Having Legislative experience of over 20 yrs 2-time LS MP and 3-time MLA with Leader of Opposition for 5 years.
He also had a position of Councillor and Chairman Contai Municipality with wide administrative experience -from being Cabinet Minister of portfolios like Transport and Irrigation for 5 years, to Chairperson of Hooghly River Bridge Commission.
As the Chairman of Haldia Development Authority for over a decade, the new CM of West Bengal played a pivotal role in the development of the industrial city.
He widely participated in the Cooperative movement as a leader, including Chairman of Agriculture Rural Bank, Contai Urban Cooperative and Vidhyasagar Central Cooperative Bank.
Adhikari officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on 19 December, 2020, in the presence of Home Minister Amit Shah at a rally in West Bengal. He resigned from the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC/TMC) and his ministerial positions prior to joining, citing differences within the party leadership.
