In a significant step towards strengthening disaster response, Mizoram on thursday launched the “Khuarel” mobile application, a real-time disaster incident reporting and management system designed to enhance coordination and information flow during emergencies.
The app was formally unveiled by Disaster Management and Rehabilitation (DM&R) Minister Lalnilawma in Aizawl. Developed jointly by the DM&R Department and Buannel Geo Solutions and Services, the platform aims to enable instant communication between the public, government agencies, and disaster management authorities.
Addressing the launch event, Lalnilawma said the app would allow citizens to quickly report disaster incidents while enabling authorities, including the State and District Disaster Management Authorities (SDMA & DDMA), to respond more efficiently.
He also highlighted that the system will maintain structured and reliable disaster data, calling it a milestone for the state. He claimed that Mizoram is among the first in the Northeast to adopt such an advanced digital solution for disaster management.
DM&R secretary Udit Prakash Rai, underscored the app’s dual function, facilitating immediate incident reporting by citizens and rapid dissemination of critical updates from authorities. He said the platform would significantly improve coordination among districts and departments, thereby strengthening overall disaster preparedness and response.
During the launch, representatives of Buannel Geo Solutions and Services presented a live demonstration of the app, showcasing its features and user interface, and explaining how it can be effectively used during emergencies.
