Ministry of External Affairs Secretary (EAST) Periasamy Kumaran held a press briefing on India and South Korea Maritime Cooperation. The MEA said industry-level moves include a non-binding MoU with HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering.
Focus areas include upgrading shipyards, building dry docks for large vessels, boosting skills, financing, and port infrastructure.
He said several initiatives have been taken as part of this. The MoU with the South Korean shipbuilder has been signed, and the Maritime Development Fund will act as a capital provider for green ship construction. In addition to setting up infrastructure, focus is also on skill training and knowledge sharing.
