The Cogress party announced to observe April as “Social Justice Month”. The party declared that Jyotiba Phule Jayanti will be celebrated on April 11 at the Indira Gandhi Pratishthan in Lucknow, and a social change marathon “Run for Ambedkar, Run for Constitution” will be organized in New Delhi on April 12.
Addressing a press conference in Delhi today, Rajendra Pal Gautam, chairman of the party’s Scheduled Castes Department, stated that the month of April holds special significance as it marks the birth anniversaries of several social reformers and great personalities of the country, including Jyotiba Phule, Babasaheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, Rahul Sankrityayan, Babu Jagjivan Ram, and Emperor Ashoka.
He said the Scheduled Castes Department and the OBC Department of the Indian National Congress will jointly organise the Jyotiba Phule Jayanti on April 11 at the Indira Gandhi Pratishthan in Lucknow.
During this event, a discussion will be held on the need for a caste census, emphasising that such an exercise would help in formulating policies to address the issues faced by Backward and Extremely Backward Classes.
Furthermore, a social change marathon titled “Run for Ambedkar, Run for Constitution” will be organized in New Delhi on April 12. The marathon will commence at 6:00 AM from Mandi House.
Gautam said the marathon will be flagged off by Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, while several other Congress leaders, including former cricket captain Mohammad Azharuddin, will also participate. He noted that more than 7,000 people have registered so far, and the total number of participants is expected to reach around 15,000.
Cash prizes have also been announced for the winners of the marathon. The first-place winner will receive ₹50,000, the second-place winner ₹25,000, and the third-place winner ₹15,000. Participants securing ranks from 4th to 20th will receive ₹1,000 each. Additionally, all participants will be given T-shirts, medals, and certificates.
Gautam stated that the message behind “Run for Ambedkar, Run for Constitution” is to highlight the significance of the Constitution drafted by Babasaheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar.
He said the marathon is dedicated to the values of the Constitution, social justice and equality, adding that its primary objective is to express solidarity with the Constitution, which ended centuries of subjugation and inequality, and granted the right to equality to Dalits, Backward Classes, Adivasis, and women. He appealed to the public to participate in the event in large numbers.
