Asian Boxing Championships: Indian Boxers Enter Semis

India’s Vishwanath Suresh, Ankushita Boro, and Narendra Barwal have advanced to the semifinals of the 2026 Asian Boxing Championships in Mongolia, ensuring three more medals for the country.

In the men’s 50 kg category, 21-year-old Vishwanath Suresh delivered a major upset by defeating Kazakhstan’s reigning world champion Sanzhar Tashkenbay with a dominant 5-0 victory.

In the women’s 65 kg category, Ankushita Boro secured a 4-1 win over Kazakhstan’s Laura Yesenkeldi to book her place in the semifinals. She will now face Chinese Taipei’s Paris 2024 Olympic bronze medalist Nien-Chin Chen in the next round.

In the men’s 90+ kg division, Narendra Barwal registered a convincing 5-0 win against UAE’s Aghayev in the quarterfinals to enter the last four.

With all three boxers reaching the semifinals, India is assured of at least three medals in the championship.
