Nagaland wrapped up its campaign at the 1st Khelo India Tribal Games 2026 in Chhattisgarh, securing a total of seven medals across multiple disciplines.
The state’s athletes competed in athletics, archery, and wrestling, claiming three medals in athletics and four in archery.
Appreciating the efforts Chief Minister of Nagaland, Neiphiu Rio wrote on ‘X’: “Congratulations to our athletes from Nagaland on securing 2 gold, 2 silver, and 3 bronze medals at the 1st Khelo India Tribal Games 2026. Your achievements are inspiring and set a strong example for future athletes. We are proud of your excellence on the national stage.”
In athletics, Wede T. Mero delivered a standout performance, winning gold in the men’s 10,000 metres. Rüduolhounuo Rachel Belho earned silver in the women’s 100 metres, while Tsuchoi T took bronze in the 5000 metres event.
The state’s archers were equally impressive. The Women’s Recurve team, comprising Ruovinuo Theünuo, Vesevolü Swuro, and Kevikieno Rikha, secured gold, while the Compound Women team of Rovine Domeh, Vetavolü Rhakho, and Lotsülü Sazo added a silver medal.
In addition, the Recurve Mixed Team, featuring Keneisao Theünuo and Ruovinuo Theünuo, took home bronze, with Ruovinuo Theünuo also clinching an individual bronze in the Women’s Recurve event.
With this performance, Nagaland finished 12th on the overall medal standings, highlighting the state’s growing presence in national sports competitions.
