Kupwara district has recorded highest mustard cultivation in 30 to 40 years, with the crop spread across nearly 6,500 hectares, officials said on Friday.

Vast stretches of yellow fields have emerged across the district, reflecting a significant rise in agricultural activity this season. Officials expressed confidence that mustard production will surpass previous decades.

The increase has been attributed to improved farming practices, higher farmer participation and sustained awareness efforts by the Agriculture Department.

Field staff conducted door-to-door campaigns to encourage farmers to take up mustard cultivation on a larger scale.

Officials said the trend also supports efforts to promote double cropping systems aimed at improving farm productivity and increasing farmers’ income.

The Agriculture Department credited farmers for their cooperation and commitment, saying the development is expected to strengthen the district’s agricultural economy in the coming years.
