In Sikkim, Namchi District Police organised an awareness campaign under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, yesterday at Tendong Hill, Namchi District. The campaign, aimed to spread awareness on the prevention of alcohol and drug abuse while promoting a healthy and responsible lifestyle among the public.
A key focus of the campaign was to revive the traditional practice of trekking to Tendong Hill, particularly during Ram Navami, when large numbers of people from Namchi and surrounding areas would historically participate in the hike.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Namchi, Sonam D Bhutia, alongside Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Namchi, Bikash Tiwari flagged off the campaign was flagged off at Damthang Bazaar.
As part of the programme, during the first half, participants undertook a hike from Damthang Bazaar to Tendong Hill, spreading the message: “Say No to Drugs and Live a Healthy Life,” reinforcing the importance of a drug-free society.
A cleanliness drive was carried out along the route, and direction boards were installed by the Namchi District Police to assist the visitors.
During the programme, participants took a pledge to avoid drugs and actively work towards creating awareness about their adverse effects.
In the second half, an awareness programme focusing on cybercrime and a commemoration of the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallaubbhai Patel, was held at the premises of the Indian Himalayan Centre for Adventure and Eco-Tourism (IHCAE), Chamchey, Namchi District.
