The Public Service Broadcasting Day was observed at Akashvani Bhawan in New Delhi today. The Chairman of Prasar Bharati, Navneet Kumar Sehgal, also attended the programme.

On the occasion, several artists came together and sang devotional songs loved by Mahatma Gandhi at the Bapu Studio. The Public Service Broadcasting Day is observed every year to mark the historic address of Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, through Akashvani on this day in 1947.

In the year 2000, the then Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Sushma  Swaraj, announced that this special day would be celebrated as Public Service Broadcasting  Day. Since then, Akashvani has celebrated the occasion every year with special programmes and events.
