Home Minister Flags Off ‘Run for Unity’ in New Delhi on National Unity Day

Home Minister Amit Shah has said that Sardar Patel made an immense contribution in uniting the country after independence, building today’s India and creating a united country. He said this while flagging off the ‘Run for Unity’ from Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in Delhi on the occasion of Rashtriya Ekta Diwas, the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

Shah said, every year on 31st of October since 2014, the government has been organising the run for unity event in respect for Sardar Patel.

The Union Home Minister said that, after India’s independence, the British decided to leave the country divided into 562 princely states.

He said that, within a short span of time, Sardar Patel accomplished the monumental task of integrating all 562 princely states, and the map of modern India that the world sees today is the result of his vision and efforts.

Home Minister Shah added that by unifying Kashmir with India by abrogating Article 370, Prime Minister Narendra Modi fulfilled the resolve of Sardar Patel.

Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar, Labour and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinay Kumar Saxena and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta were present during the occasion.
