Praveen Kumar assumes the charge of DG, ITBP

Praveen Kumar  has assumed the charge of Director General (DG) of Indo-Tibetan Border Police Force (ITBP) with effect from 30 September, 2025. Kumar is an officer of 1993 batch of the Indian Police Service (IPS) from the West Bengal Cadre.

He took over the charge from Rahul Rasgotra, who retired on superannuationafter after his tenure. The baton was formally handed over in a brief ceremony held at ITBP Headquarters in New Delhi.

Before joining the elite Force, Praveen Kumar was serving as Special Director in the Intelligence Bureau. Over a distinguished career spanning 32 years, he has held various important positions both in his Cadre West Bengal and Intelligence Bureau.

For his exemplary services, he has been decorated with the Indian Police Medal (IPM), President’s Police Medal (PPM), Police (Special Duty) Medal, Police Antrik Suraksha Seva Padak, and the Asaadharan Aasuchana Kushalata Padak.
