A tragic incident unfolded on Sunday evening when an old bridge over the Indrayani River collapsed at Indori, near Talegaon in Pune district’s Maval Taluka. The collapse occurred while a large number of tourists were gathered on the structure, causing panic and chaos as several people fell into the swollen river below.
According to official statements, two people have been confirmed dead and 32 others injured, with six in critical condition. All injured individuals have been admitted to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Rescue operations were launched swiftly, with six people rescued from the river so far. However, 25 to 30 people are still feared drowned or missing, according to preliminary reports.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed deep sorrow over the incident, he wrote on X

The Chief Minister confirmed he is in constant contact with the Divisional Commissioner, District Collector, Superintendent of Police, and the Tehsildar of the area. He added that the Divisional Commissioner has left for the site, and that the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has been deployed. Relief work has been “immediately accelerated,” he said, and all agencies have been placed on high alert.
Heavy rainfall over the last two days has led to strong river currents, significantly hampering rescue efforts. Local police, fire brigade personnel, and villagers are also assisting in the ongoing search operations.
Kundmala, near Indori village, is a well-known tourist spot that typically sees high weekend footfall. Authorities are investigating whether the bridge was structurally sound and whether safety guidelines were in place.
As operations continue, the administration urges people to avoid the area and cooperate with rescue teams. Further updates are awaited.
