Australia stands with India against terrorism, said Australian Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles during a bilateral meeting between the two defence ministers in New Delhi. India’s Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also apprised his Australian counterpart of the challenges India is facing on the western front.
Deputy Prime Minister Marles, who also holds the defence portfolio, was given a guard of honour at the Manekshaw Centre in Delhi earlier today. He was accompanied by India’s Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. The two ministers were joined by top military officials and senior representatives from both countries.
In his welcome address, Rajnath Singh highlighted the extreme challenges India is facing on the western front, referring to the recent dastardly attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir.
Expressing solidarity with India against terrorism, Marles emphasized the close partnership between India and Australia in defence and maritime security.

Richard Marles is the first senior Australian minister to visit India following Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s second-term victory. Marles’ visit to India is part of a four-nation trip to South and Southeast Asia, taking place from June 2 to June 5, aimed at high-level meetings.
