The Assam flood situation worsened, with over 6.3 lakh people affected across 21 districts. The death toll has risen to 12. Sribhumi remains the worst-hit district for the second consecutive day, with 2.3 lakh people affected. Transportation has been severely impacted, with road, rail, and ferry services disrupted due to persistent heavy rainfall in several regions.
As per the latest report, the Katakhal River is flowing above its highest flood level. Overall, eight rivers are flowing above the danger level. A total of 511 relief camps or centres have been set up. The SDRF, DDRF, Inland Water Transport, Fire and Emergency Services, and local administration offices are carrying out rescue operations relentlessly.
On Tuesday, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited flood-affected areas and met with residents impacted by the ongoing crisis.
In a post shared on social media platform X, he wrote, “Our relief efforts for the people of Lakhimpur is going on full swing despite the heavy downpour. We are reaching to everyone to ensure their requirements are met and addressed.”

In another post, he added, “With our people, always! In Lakhimpur’s Amtola, floods have wrecked havoc due to heavy upstream rainfall. Our Administration is working tirelessly to provide relief to the people and once the situation normalises we will promptly rehabilitate their losses.”
