Officers of Mumbai Customs, Zone-III, at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMI), continued their enforcement drive against smuggling activities and effected significant seizures in two separate cases on 06 April 2025, involving narcotic substances and gold.
On the basis of spot profiling, Mumbai Customs officers intercepted one passenger who arrived in Mumbai from Bangkok by IndiGo Airlines flight 6E 1052. When the passenger’s trolley bag was examined, Customs officers recovered 9.532 kg of suspected hydroponic weed (marijuana), having an illicit market value of approximately Rs 9.53 crore.
The contraband was ingeniously concealed inside the trolley bag. The passenger was arrested under the relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. Further investigation is currently underway.
In another case, based on specific intelligence, Mumbai Customs officers intercepted two passengers who arrived from Dubai to Mumbai by IndiGo Airlines flight 6E 1854. After search, officers recovered 21 KT crude gold in the form of pieces weighing 0.789 kg, provisionally valued at Rs 58.83 lakh.
The gold was found concealed in the undergarments worn by the passengers. As per Customs law necessary action is being taken, and investigations are ongoing.
