DRI Uncovers 12Kg Gold hidden in DJ Lights, Arrests 2 Smugglers in Mumbai

In a major breakthrough the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Mumbai has seized 12 kg of gold worth Rs 9.6 crore, hidden inside DJ lights and smuggled through the Air Cargo Complex in Mumbai.

Acting on intelligence, DRI officers examined the consignment and recovered approximately 3 kg of gold from each DJ light. In subsequent investigation, a godown was located and searched, in which 68 DJ lights were found with cavities used for gold smuggling using the same modus.

It is estimated that a large quantum of gold has been smuggled into the country by the syndicate in the past. Two persons involved in the smuggling of gold have been arrested. DRI, Mumbai has seized about 48 kg of smuggled gold in the past week alone signifying remarkable success against the gold smuggling syndicates.
