Have you heard about going against the trend? Where mobile manufacturers copycat each other making every phone look similar to each other. Nothing first came up with phone 1 with some different approach including glyph interface and a redesigned User Interface.

Now CMF by nothing has launched a phone against the trend where phones having glass back with minimal hardware customization, CMF Phone 1 has an unconventional design approach having a sturdy plastic back making the phone drop proof including 5 screws on the back one of which looks like a big dial on the bottom.

By the help of the screwdriver/ sim ejector tool you can swap the back panel in any case if you drop the phone or you want a different color (CMF by nothing curated back panel at 1,999). And there are several different accessories available. Isn’t it nostalgic? Taking back to old times? where phones used to have different hardware customization capabilities. Where innovation was the first priority.

Display

Equipped with a 6.7-inch AMOLED display, the CMF Phone 1 offers vibrant colors and high contrast, making it excellent for watching videos or browsing. The display also supports a 120Hz refresh rate, ensuring smooth scrolling and responsiveness during general use and gaming. However it is not a LTPO display so the refresh rate stays high even on low-demand apps, which may impact battery life. The main challenge comes while using it outdoors because as advertised the highest brightness around 2000nits which only works with HDR rest the typical brightness maxes out at 500-700nits.

Performance

The CMF Phone 1 is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7300 chipset which is the successor to the processor 7050 not to 7200 (i know it is confusing because of the complex naming of MediaTek lineup). Paired with options for 6GB or 8GB of RAM, the phone can run most apps smoothly, although it may not be optimized for heavy, high-graphics games it handles asphalt & PUBG very well with 60fps. After all, it is a budget phone. Its vapor chamber cooling system helps manage heat, a useful feature for extended gaming or heavy use. Besides you will not find any sort of thermal throttling or lag in this phone on daily usage.

Battery & Charging
With a 5000mAh battery, this phone supports full-day usage on a single charge with 7 hours of screen on time. The device is compatible with 33W fast charging, taking 10-50% in 20mins & roughly an hour to charge fully, though users will need to buy a compatible charger separately. The combination of efficient software and the sizable battery should suit most users’ daily needs without frequent recharges.
Camera
The CMF Phone 1 features a dual-camera setup, led by a 50MP primary sensor, which performs well in daylight and captures detailed, balanced shots with vibrant colours. Its portrait mode and HDR capabilities add versatility, though it lacks an ultra-wide lens, and the low-light performance could be improved. But as compared to the rivals you will find a little bit better low light performance. There’s no OIS but there is EIS.
Final Thoughts
You don’t get a headphone jack but you get a memory card slot in the hybrid slot which supports up to 2TB. You also get an in-display fingerprint scanner that’s fast and responsive. Yes you don’t get a stereo speaker set up and the bottom firing speaker is Kinda ok. You will not get any bloatware on board which is nice. With wifi 6, Bluetooth 5.4 and dual 5G with 9 band supported. You get this phone at Rs 14,999 for the 6GB variant and Rs 16,999 for the 8GB variant on Flipkart. So the decision is up to you but at this price nothing really went over the board and did something unique. So i really really want to know what you guys think about this phone so please leave your comments so it can help us to review phones better in future.
