Indian Grand Master Koneru Humpy has created history by becoming the first-ever Indian to reach the semifinals of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) Women’s World Cup.
India’s number one, Humpy defeated China’s Yuxin Song in the first game of the quarterfinal and then settled for a draw in game two.
For Humpy a draw in the second game was neede to reach the semifinal as she finished with a score line of 1.5-0.5.
Humpy will next face top-seeded Chinese Lei Tingjie, who defeated Nana Dzagnidze in their quarterfinal.
In the other quarterfinals, the all-Indian clash between D Harika and Divya Deshmukh will be decided through tiebreaks after both their games ended in draws.
In the fourth quarterfinals, R. Vaishali, suffered an exit from the event after losing to China’s Tan Zhongyi.
